The ideas behind Ideology

So I've been asked to elaborate on the concept of "IDLGY" - which is actually the shortened (and voweless) form of the word "Ideology" (just in case you didn't realize).

I came up with the name during the summer while I was bouncing around ideas for a future jacket line. One of my design philosophies (or what little philosophy I have) for design is that our cloths are an extension of our personalities. Of course in which case, everyone's perfect jacket would be custom made. However, as that is impossible, I settled for jackets which are inspired by people I know. I emphasis on functionality. A great jacket should be versatile - but completely suited to what someone does. After all, the perfect jacket endures after years and years of wearing!

From that, I created the first "the ideology jacket". It was designed for both me and my cousin with whom I share many style ideas. We both love chic, slightly futuristic but classically tailored garments that fit well and that we can throw on over any outfit to finish up a look or just to add a bit of interest. The jacket features quilting details, a versatile & removable front panel and of course, the most wonderful leather.

This jacket will be going into production sometime this year - and hopefully available online for your purchasing pleasures soon! If you'd like to custom order the jacket (in a specific size / colour), please email me and let me know!

watch out lauren conrad, you've got competition

I recently discovered the Toronto equivalent of The Hills. Mostly because I've been hearing about it from all my friends, but also because Bee makes a special guest appearance .. for all of 30 seconds.

It is as real as reality TV goes and the main lead puts some of us heel stutters to shame. But you'll have to judge for yourself. Perhaps Conrad's producers have a new show in sight ... but probably not. Watch and see!

a poem for thought..

Hi everyone, bee here.
So I have two amazing younger sisters. One is going to cure cancer and the other is going to be a famous writer. This is her first poem and I thought I would share it with the world. It is a sestinas, which is when you pick 6 words, and each line ends with one of them, in a different order each stanza. enjoy:)

WHERE IS MY GEMINI?
Darling wakes up and turns her face to the north
Darling undoes her voice and adorns a music box
“Where are you, where is your heart, my Gemini?
When will we, how will we, hear you swoon?”
Darling and her songs, they only coexist
To be lost in them again, I pray

She whispers, “In the skies I see a prayer
It was born in the south and ends, Amen, in the north,”
Upon this I rest our brilliant coexistence
“Darling you are the music as I am your music box.”
I say, she shines, and I fade as the swoons
I promise she will remain my darling Gemini

Descended from a star atop that constellation gemini
A resplendent cliché, my answered prayer
“Have you seen any new light?” Caressing, she swoons
But escape laced her voice, and she flew north
“I miss you easily. What of this empty music box?”
Darling and me, we’ll only ever coexist

Between never and always, she still exists
“Someday, maybe,” drips from the lips of Gemini
Since then, until then, I’ll be her silent music box
Without a tune, I’ll kneel in lyricless prayer
Cloudless eyes only opening to the north
The wind carries that homeless swoon

My body became rain, lost amongst echoes of swoons
Was replaced by a Cardinal, with a chipped existence
Escaped south reverently, never returning north
No magnets or maps led it towards Gemini
Uncharted oceans found it still in prayer
Waiting to become that familiar music box

And, asleep in the snow, Cardinal melts into a music box
Grew knees, and feet, reborn with springtime’s swoon
Grew hands, a smile, sat up and prayed
“I’m in love, I’m in love with this existence,
This life, this mind, this heart as a Gemini.”
I stood up and turned my soul to the north

“Bury that misplaced prayer - you’re the tune to the music box,”
Came that song out of the north; I breathed in her swoons
“Tie a box on your existence, you’re your own Gemini.”

ideally it'd be revolution

Hi! This the first post of IDLGY! So I'll start a little by introducing us.

We are roommates, currently living in a cute little apartment in Toronto, Canada. Both of us are fashion students studying Design & Communications at Ryerson University. We both do a little bit of designing from things like feather rings to leather jackets to shoes (still in the workings ...). Both love fashion, art & photography.

IDLGY is the love child of Summer 2010, leather jackets & the general need for a space to share ideas, inspirations etc. Earlier in the Summer 2010, I had the pleasure of visiting China which is btw, a mad-house for design ideas. While I was in Shanghai, I was working with a couple local designers & a leather jacket manufacturer. The idea came to me to design my perfect leather jacket. Because I am a designer .. and poor, I could never find an original jacket which encompasses everything that I am and is functional and stylish. Thus came the first IDLGY jacket.

With the jacket came idea for a brand of jackets which are inspired by real life people for real life people. Jackets which fit the functionality needed by the individual they are designed for and reflects the people they represent. And with that came the idea for a blog on which we can share the people we get to meet on daily lives, our design ideas & esthetics's and all that other fun stuff!
